Weight Reduction ???

Understand we have a couple big issues here that will make weight reduction very expensive.
1. The IS is based off its bigger/heavier brother GS. When different cars share platforms the smaller cars are heavier than the competition as this is not a specific platform for them. Another example would be the G37 coupe which weighs a ridiculous amount.
2. The V-8 in the IS wasn't meant for the car and thats a big, heavy engine (thus the hood bulge etc).
3. Aftermarket CF is sometimes not any lighter than an aluminum or plastic part it is replacing. You really have to be clear on the weight of the CF piece.
4. Changing weight on a stock suspension may hurt the car as all the testing was done with the cars sold weight. Weight distribution changes and you may lose even more standing start dry traction. You really need some base data (track/strip) to see just how much improvement you get.
That said here are other suggestions
-New grill without the emblem may lose 1 lb
-No foglights
-Lighter glass than the OEM glass
-No spoiler
-Coilover system should be lighter than stock spring/shock setup
-Rip out carpet for flat floorplan or install thin material
-smaller sideview mirrors
FYI the M3 CSL we didn't get didn't have an A/C, radio...they were options....

Im glad the topic is getting some good attention.
This is some good weight savings and should help the car dramatically. A 197 weight loss from the reported 3780 would drop the car to around 3583 lbs.
That is great because the weight to power ratio would improve from 9.08 to 8.6. From what ive researched on the web, the weight to power ratio of the c63 is 8.85 because the actual curb weight of the car is 3993lbs.

Hopefully this statistic will put the isf ahead for now.
I Should have a run with one soon. Im definitely goning take out as much weight as possible and let you guys know how it goes.

ok good stuff
here it is. well by easy I ment simple bolt on or easy replacement did not mean by price at all.
ok so what to expect give or take a few LBS
easy savings
26.5 LBS Battery
6 LBS PTS exhaust
35 LBS spare jacks and tools
40 LBS light wheels
10 lbs cf fenders, hood and trunk
80 lbs Racing seats
197 LBS savings
hardest savings
27 lbs noise material stripping
224 lbs total savings not to bad exept for the last 30 lbs........
now it really sounds good. defenitly would be an inprovement in performance

This was good until your first suggestion:
"-New grill without the emblem may lose 1 lb"
ROFL. The emblem is probably chromed plastic which is probably under 10 ounces. Not exactly weighing your car down...
If money and comfort was not an issue and I want to lighten up the car as much as possible this would be my to-do list:
CF hood
CF fenders
CF bumpers
CF doors
CF roof
Take out rear seats
Take out carpeting
Take out all speakers and radio (I would leave radio and 2 speakers)
Take out spare & tools
Take out AC (I would leave this..)
Replace side and rear windows with Lexan (keep front for safety)
Lightweight batteries
Lightweight wheels
Install rollcage (for safety because of CF doors/roof)
Gut out the trunk
Lightweight seats.

I'm 15 lbs into a 60 lb weight reduction, but it doesn't do much for the car. Ideally we'd get it down to 3100 lbs so we could play tag with Vettes. I don't see getting 600 lbs off the car easily. The engine alone gives up 70 lbs to the Vette engine. I wish Toyota had gone with a plastic intake - the metal piece can't be light. Hmmm...
