NC gas shortage, NO premium fuel
A leak earlier this month caused the closure of a key pipeline that carries gas to the eastern United States, So we are short here in NC. Right now, there are no plus and premium grade. Can I use the regular grade and add some octane booster? If so, can someone recommend the octane booster?
Thanks,
Newey

You would need like 8 bottles to get up to premium octane lol. Do you have e85 stations there? You could also go tho a paint store and buy toluene or xylene. You would need approximately 3 gallons of any of those to get from 87 up to 91 ish octane.

Whatsup Newey?! There are plenty of gas stations in Raleigh that gave gas now. There's a website out there somewhere showing which stations gave gas and which ones don't. Worse case, cone to Oxford...plenty here at all the gas stations now!! But we just filled up in Raleigh off of Glenwood Ave.
Good luck!

Called Sam's Club last night to ask about having premium. "Yeah, we got it, come on!" I hop in the car, realize I don't have a SC membership, get online and order one and then drive my car with the fuel light on to SC. Get there, you can't use a "virtual card" and they have nothing above 87 octane. Great, I put one gallon of 87 in after asking random strangers to use their card and drive back home hoping that the little gas that I have left will mix and get it close to 90 octane at least.

Has anyone verified that with knock sensor data? Running the car hard isn't really the problem, it's the 11.8:1 compression ratio and trying to keep the gas from igniting on compression stroke that's the problem. I wondered myself but 4 full percentage points is a lot. Look how much the guys are complainig about having to use 91 in states like cali...

yeah it was a rough time last week- I didn't realize that when they claimed to work hard on getting supplies out, that they were only concerned about 87 octaine
I didn't even bother to check SAMS because every other gas station in the Durham/Morrisville/Cary area was out of Premium
