Paint always recommended isolating the part because of prep work sanding Etc.

No need to remove the front bumper to remove the grill surround. It is easier to pop it out with the front bumper off, but definitely not worth removing the entire front bumper. It is a little tricky because you can't see what you are doing, and there are three (I think) locking tabs on the bottom of the grill surround that need to be popped off in order to remove it, after removing the three bolts from the top. Getting them all three at once can be annoying, but not impossible. Maybe someone will have better instructions, but if not, just screw with it, it will come off.

It is much easier to see what you're doing with the grill if you just pop the bumper off. I've tried removing the grill without removing the bumper, and it seems to take just as long since you cannot easily see what the heck you're trying to do.
It only takes 10-15 minutes to get the bumper off, just make your life a little easier and do that

I took the entire assembly out without removing the bumper and then separated the surround from it to paint it. Definitely a pain in the **** but with the right tools pretty simple. Just can't be afraid to put some force into it, and/or knowing when and when not to. I didn't break any of the clips but a few at the bottom required some force.

I used this post when I did mine...

Getting the grill out is pretty easy. Once it's removed, seperating the grill and surround before painting is also pretty easy.
