Why are extended lugs more safe if you track? If you're using the same studs wouldn't a regular set of lugs still screw all the way and hold the wheels just as well as stock?

I ended up getting McGard splinedrive lugs for my aftermarket wheels, so I'm wondering if I need to reconsider.

Yes that's them. The r26 is all you need, unless you have extended wheel studs, they make R40 which are longer. FIGS sells these BTW, he might be able to give you a better deal than from Amazon.

So, the main difference between R26 and R40 is the length? I'm seeing several different versions of R40 - some open designs and some closed designs. I never realized there were so many lug nut choices...

Is the general consensus that these Project Kics are among the best choices?

i had Project Kics R40 neo chrome lugs on my previous car and had them replaced twice bc two different shops used impact guns on them, despite me telling them not to. yes they replaced them but since they cross threaded the bolts they had to replace those, too. just a pain w/ the wait time and going back, etc. just make sure whoever works on your car hand torques them. they are finicky.

I ordered the R26 last night. The R40 seemed too long. In the end I will have HRE lugs and the R26 in case. Never knew there was so much to lugs either

Nice choice

I would wait to see what kind of lugs they send you... I'm sure they will be of good quality..!!

Also, for the tuner lugs, I like closed end.. Avoids water entering the stud threads and sending it back to the hub plates to rust.

This should help keep me under oem wheel weights or at least even but with a ton more grip. I decided to order the wheels with custom Anthracite finish. I decided against black wheels. Seems like you lose a lot of the detail of the wheel in the lack of contrast . They said the 19x11 et55 was really for the RCF but they test fit the wheel on an ISF they had and it cleared !!

You are 100% correct. I knew a company like HRE would supply hub rings, but I called today and found out that they will even be supplying the lugs I need to for the wheels !! I was pretty happy about that. You are right about the lugs being 12x1.5 conical too. I had no clue about any of this "lug stuff". Just always had Discount tire give me what they said was best or safest. Really never had exposure to the technical side of lugs. Lady on the phone at HRE said their lugs are light weight

Thanks JoeZ!! I appreciate it. I will probably go with the HRE lugs first but I found the Project Kics for $140 so I went for it in case. I agree that the opened ended lugs will just help cause rust and exposure.

Nice rims!

...but 15 spokes and all those 90 degree angles are gonna be a nightmare to clean with our brake dust.

I like the detail . And it can not be any worse than the 2010 oem wheels . I called HRE yesterday to ask about hub rings and they said the rings they use are plastic but a "robust" plastic that handles heat very well. I told him Id still rather have metal rings so they connected me to the head of the Flow Form division and he personally gave me the bore sizes on the wheels. I ended up ordering a very high quality set from a motorsports site , and they even had the odd 70.6 size for the rear wheel ! I know its paranoia from horrible vibration issues in the past with other sets of wheels , but I would rather be safe.

Just got my Project Kics lugs and WOW !! I can not believe how light these are. Each lug is only 26 grams ! This is an amazingly easy way to significantly reduce unsprung mass. Now that I know how much weight you can reduce at each corner for a relatively small price I am going to always run these with my aftermarket wheels.

Are there any kind of open ended lug nuts that would work with the stock wheels? I want to add a 10mm spacer in front for fitment but I'd like to have the option to run my stock wheels.

Just be careful where you get these installed. They're made from aluminum and I've seen and read about people breaking them even when being properly installed. I was going to buy either the project kics or the Rays lug nuts but decided to go with the McGard splinedrive lugs just for peace of mind.

Only the floating seats are made of aluminum. The rest is high strength steel.
If you want really light ones, there's titanium ones but they cost about 4 times more.

I ended up getting these lugs from McGard:

Amazon.com: McGard 64015 Chrome/Black Bulge Cone Seat Style Lug Nuts (M12 x 1.5 Thread Size) - Set of 4: Automotive Amazon.com: McGard 64015 Chrome/Black Bulge Cone Seat Style Lug Nuts (M12 x 1.5 Thread Size) - Set of 4: Automotive

Wanted to originally get the splinedrive's but I heard too many bad reviews on the key, and didn't want to deal with that headache.
Great thing is that these lugs are cheap AND reliable.
