Interest thread, 2-Piece front rotors and rear rotor options
FIGS and Racing Brake would like to team up again to deliver a Brake upgrade for the ISF. I will be investigating a 2-piece OEM rotor replacement as well as a 2-piece and/or single cast OEM rear rotor replacement. I would need 10 people interested to make it worth developing. RacingBrake is a premier rotor manufacturer and controls all of the processes in house. They have more than 20 years of experience making rotors and I had nothing but great experience with their rotor materials.
EDIT UPDATE:
We have initiated the build of both front and rear rotors.
here are the updated product specs.
FRONT
One-piece 27.5 lbs.
Two-piece 20.5 lbs.
Weight Savings: 7.0 lbs.
REAR
Weight Comparison (per rotor)
One-piece 22.0 lbs.
Two-piece 17.5 lbs.
Weight Savings: 4.5 lbs.
**2-piece rotors are made to 340x28mm vs. OE 345x28mm for better fit to stock caliper w/o the undesirable rusty lip on the rotor edge.
This design adjustment is a result of our extensive experience in building two piece rotors.
These two-piece rotors were engineered to be the best stock replacement two-piece rotor on the performance market. This rotor is direct bolt-on, easy to install, no additional hardware needed, and an excellent upgrade for both street and track. They can deliver consistent brake torque under extreme heat, session after session. When it comes to replacement - operating cost over the time will be lower than one-piece rotor.
NOTE: These two-piece rear rotors are made with the latest technology that is exclusive to RB. The rotor hats are constructed of aluminum with an iron sleeve insert. This allows significant weight savings, while still preserving the use of the stock emergency brake. This design is only available through RB!
RB rotors are made of harder iron than OE rotors. Our rotors are most compatible with semi-metallic brake pads. We do not recommend the use of ceramic brake pads, which may cause vibration.
Rotor Material: Racing Formula Alloyed Gray Iron & Heat treated
Machining: Open Slot
Surface: EDP Coating w/cross cut grinding on friction surface
NOTE: Retaining and jack screw holes might have been eliminated to prevent the screws from stripping and breaking, causing tremendous effort to remove and replace the rotors. Our two-piece rotor hats are made of aluminum which is easier for installation and removal. See detail view here.
Click here to learn how RB two-piece rotors are built differently than the competition.
Replacement Components
Rotor Ring: D308-05-381
Fasteners: FK1
Material:
1.Alloyed iron formula adds strength and heat resistance. Heat treating further improves rotor performance for a more uniform and stabilized microstructure.
Design:
1.The cooling vanes are of a convergent nozzle design, which increases airflow and turbulence and makes discs cooler. (Illustration #1)
2.The center-mount flanges for hat mounting to the rotor ring have several benefits. (Illustration #2)
◦It allows the ring to be used on either side of the vehicle simply by mounting the hat on either side of the ring (unidirectional).
◦The stress load transferred from the ring to the hat is balanced.
◦Air inlets are widely open to both inboard and outboard sides of the rotor. More air suctions and even temperature on both sides of the disc surface.
◦Heat transfer from the disc surfaces to the hat is even and minimized by increasing the flange length and the airflow around the flanges.
◦Mounting flanges are on both friction surfaces ultimately provides excellent heat balance.
3.Exclusive full floating design with 10.9 grade alloyed hardware. Hardware is DACRO coated and crimp locking. DACRO is highly corrosion resistant and provides a film for easier movement between the hat and rotor ring as disc expands and contracts and the crimp design provides positive engagement without rattling or torque loss at temperature.

the rear two piece is a maybe. I need to look at how complicated it will be to address the hat and then go from there. It will depend on the existing tooling that we can take advantage of. The rotor ring replacements I will make sure that we do a large enough run that we have plenty of safety stock for maintenance. One of the great things I have experienced working with this alloy and the Hawk pads is that for daily driving they will last a long time, its only at elevated temps that they really dig in. So that should be a good story for long term use cases.

slotted typically has better wear characteristics and I will even see if I can do a smooth rotor profile. IMO, the smaller aspect demands a more stable structure and cross drilled will just lead to more stress fracturing for long term users. I will see about all three options though so you can choose how to balance the performance vs longevity.

yes they will be lighter.
trackdood is talking about a slightly different solution that I talked with him about previously, the price estimates are what I posted above.

not quite on 2 piece. But I have taken measurements on the rear rotors .

Well, I decided to not let this slide and we should have the first 5 sets done in several weeks, with the rears soon to follow. Preorders are now being taken with an additional discount:
