i am near 6000 miles and will do my oil before 10k. I already did free 5k but wanna do the rest myself. any ideas? also i only drive maybe 6000 miles a year if that matters maybe 8000. thanks in advance!
I have always used Mobil 1, in all of my performance cars and plan to switch at 3K in the F.
why do you change the oil every 3000? the oil does not burn? just the dirty filter would need replacing right? so just do oil every two or three oil filters just always top it off? just an option to save money. at 10 quarts kinda pricey but i guess i dont drive but 6k a year so not to bad!

Change everything, oil and filter...ALWAYS. Whether you want to do it at 3K, 5K or 8K miles is up to you. A lot of people like to do the first change before too many miles get on the clock, running dino oil originally, and then going to synthetic after break in.

I do the first oil change at 3K after a break in period, switch to synthetic at that time then I change it every 5K. I put less that 10K a year on my cars so I just do the oil change twice a year.

+1... best time to change on new car is 1500 miles, gets rid of engine shaving that have collected. When you change, change everything, oil and filter.
I have always changed my Amsoil at 10K-15K depending on how much city/hwy mix. More city, more changes. Use Amsoil filters as well.
I belonged to a Mustang group back in Atlanta who were fanatical about oil, boost, HP, etc. They used to test their oil constantly. At 5K miles, Amsoil breakdown was equal to Mobile 1, Castrol, and Havoline NEW. Royal Purple and Amsoil were favored by better than 10-1 due to the long-lasting protection.
