Strange clicking sound from Engine Area + rusted pulley/aluminum oxidation?
Hi Everyone,
I have a 2015 IS350 fsport, with 13k KM on it.
Starting to notice the following oddities:
Strange clicking sound, does yours do this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0diH...ature=youtu.be
Check out this rusted part, do you think this can be replaced by the dealer/should it be replaced?
And lastly, do you guys have as much aluminum oxidation as I do? I feel like this is a bit much, this white powder is all over the place.
I have an appointment in 5 days with the dealer, so I will be discussing this; I'll share what I learn.
Thanks for all your help!

Also, you live in ontario? do you guys drive on salt all winter?
The pulley is non treated metal so it will eventually get surface rust on it. Not a big deal though. as long as it is not making noises or loose, its good to go.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I guess I'm a little surprised at the noise, I didn't think a Lexus would make such a sound. But its also the first motor of its kind that I've owned so maybe I just wasn't aware.
And yes, I'm in Toronto. We had a very mild 2015 winter so road salting wasn't excessive.
I'm still a little uneasy with all that white powder though.

Pole Position
Aluminum will form a thin protective layer of oxide when it is exposed to the elements; salt accelerates the process. I wouldn't worry about it.

There is no avoiding the oxidizing of the aluminum. It is part of living where we do and Lexus will tell you the same. And same for the pulley. My advice if the rusty pulley bugs you, grab a can of Tremclad from HomeDepot or CanadianTire and paint it back again.
As for the oxidizing, nothing really you can do other than to clean it off, but you'll be doing it monthly, my advice is just to leave it.
