Re: IS200T Acceleration

I think the biggest problem here is that a turbo is being introduced to a market of people who have no understanding what the POINT of boosting an economically sized engine brings to the table. I can bet 80% or more of the new IS200T owners think along the this path "I HAVE A TURBO!!! I DIDN'T HAVE ONE IN MY PREVIOUS IS, I'M SO FAST!!" Until they drive it...and realize...oh s#%(*, I lost displacement, lost torque on demand, and now I'm stuck waiting for boost that doesn't offer the smooth power curve I get naturally aspirated? But...but....TURBO!?!?
There is nothing wrong with the car for what it is. The problem is that the demographic that is buying it doesn't understand it, and Toyota is doing a poor job marketing it properly.

Ive driven my share of turbo 4cyl cars and if you know how to be in the right gear, at the right RPM, at the right time, you can drive it quickly and not worry about turbo lag nearly as much. I let my dad drive my turbo car (no offense dad), but he lugs it around and then when the boost finally hits, yeah its not very smooth. That's just the way it works. the small, twin-scroll turbo on the 200t has very little turbo lag and spools quite quickly IMO.
NA power will always be more linear and has reacts quicker right at the tip of your foot at (practically) any RPM compared to a turbo.

Well, like I said. If I wanted speed I would have bought a BMW, or an actual performance car.
I just thought Lexus finally improved the speed aspect on the new IS, its still an improvement but they didnt do it up to par. Well thats okay too. Originally I was going to choose the 250, but coming from a CT I wanted to switch out to something that was fun to drive, luxurious and good on MPG, also most importantly reliability (maybe a lot of people overlook this). The 200t in my eyes is still good, it handles well and it doesnt suck too much gas so I am content with it.

Here's a good review of the is200t. Its a good honest review.
If you want to see how it accelerates theres a part at the end of the video. I test drove one last week and for daily driving you wont have a problem, but if you're expecting a sports car then look somewhere else.
