Anyone have any idea what the dots are?
They appear for no reason and won't go away.
I haven't entered any destination nor do they seem to lead to any of my particular destinations.

Those track were you have traveled that way you know where you have gone so you wont get lost. The mord times you go through the same road the more dots there will be. Think of it as hansel and gretle when they threw bread crumbs on the floor to find there way back home

Yeah somewhere in the settings you will have to mess with it.

Go to Options on the top portion of your map screen to turn it off.

The first time I saw these dots was on a loaner. I turned it of immediately so the dealer and the next driver wouldn't know the places I went.
