Mildew smell from AC - less than 4k miles
When I turn on my car I get a horrible mildew smell from my AC
There's only 3500 miles on it.
It's garaged every night.
Any suggestions?
Has anyone else had this problem?

When you shut off engine is the A/C in recycle air circulation mode? It will cause condensation inside compressor and that's what you're smelling. You should switch to fresh air mode before turning off engine or turn off A/C completely. My car is almost 2 yrs old no mildew smell.

A/C Smell
Had the same problem with my BMW; condensation is the reason for this "Dirty Socks" smell, the origin of this smell is mold growing on your ac evaporator.
If I may suggest, see your dealer to have this problem fixed, they should know what to do; it was quite a job in my BMW but don't know about Lexus.

The LS430 always had this problem. Before You get to your destination, switch to fresh air mode. This has helped a lot. Keeps the vents open and sir flowing through to dry up any condensation

I have this problem too. I removed the air filter from the glovebox, turned the A/C on high, and sprayed a nice dose of Lysol disinfectant into the A/C. Also sprayed more Lysol on the air filter. Did this a few times over a week or so and the smell is greatly reduced.
I didn't know that putting the A/C on fresh air mode will help it vent. That's good advice. I'm going to start doing that.

The smell is due to the water build up that is happening. Upon return home shut your ac off a mile or so before so it has time to rid the water from the system. I have always done this and never had a smell. Mildew can build up because of not doing so.
