What do you think of the base audio system?

I listened to the IS with the non-ML system, and honestly thought it was really bad.
Was it a horrible audio system in general? No.
Was it a horrible audio system for a $40k+ car? Yes!
I played with the audio system quite a bit, but could not find any setting that I liked. My Honda has a much better stock sound system.
Just my .2 cents.

I was really disappointed in the base system until I finally realized that the 'ASL' DSP feature was responsible for the muddy sound and extreme bass boosting that resulted in any calibration being distorted. It adjusts the equalizer when driving at speed. After finally turning that feature off and setting Treble/Mids/Bass in a parked car, the system actually sounds quite decent.

Straight garbage. Especially when listening to Sat radio. It's like the speakers are made of tin cans surrounded by tweeters.
After 2 weeks, I wanted to upgrade to the ML but got rid of the car after 2 months I think.

Sat radio has terrible audio quality, worse than fm. If you're going to judge any system you need to use good source material, either a cd or from a usb drive

Same with Pandora. No one uses CD / USB any more. That's like 2003.

I'm rather certain that SiriusXM uses 32-64kbps compression for their channels. USB, BT, FM-HD, CD, will all sound better than SiriusXM. I would never blame the sound quality of satellite radio on the sound system. It can only do so much to cover up such awful compression.

I actually came across this thread because I was in the process of picking up a 3is to replace my 2is, I can say firsthand I have had a 3is loaner and was fairly upset with the quality it wasnt horrible but compared to stock on my 2is its light years downhill.. The last gen IS had a supurb stock audio system, I got many compliments on clarity and bass and its one of my fav feats. I did not mess with tuning when I had the loaner and guess i"ll find out myself how it sounds, but at 40kish premium audio should be included there should be no discussion..
