I have a 2007 IS 300 and whenever I slow down to like 40 or 30 km and the car downshifts to 4th gear, it's like downshifting and letting off the clutch quickly.
This usually happens when the car is cold or when I've been keeping the rpm high and then driving slowly.
I don't know whether I should change the transmission fluid or something but this been happening to me for like 3 months now.

This is a normal function. When going speeds in excess of 40 or 50 MPH, and depressing the brakes the car will automatically downshift to 4th. It is a way to slow down more efficiently.

Yes I know that the car is trying to slow down properly. but like I said, it will downshift awkwardly, like when you release the clutch way too fast on a manual and end up jerking the whole car. Also, this only happens in 4th gear and under 2k rpm.

It's happening to mine too. I'm thinking the transmission is on the way out.
