Default Code P0430 2006 IS250

I had a crack in one of the exhaust pipes that was causing a loud noise when running the car (especially at the beginning). I had the crack sealed up and the check engine light went off and for awhile but then came back on. Ran the diagnosis at the dealership when the check engine light came back on and it said "CODE P0430 CATALYST SYSTEM EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD BANK 2." Theres a little more than 125k miles on it. Im scared I might have to replace both cats, which would be over $2K.........any other ideas??????

Without diagnostics to check what exactly is wrong, it's possible it is a cat, it's possible it is a sensor. Where was the crack you had repaired? Bank 2 is the driver's side, is that where you had the repair done? Was it near the catalytic converter in the manifold or further back?

I believe it was on the drivers side.....and yes it was close the catalytic converter. They said the exhaust was cracked and leaking but that has been fixed of course......

My concern is that the heat/arc from the welding may have damaged the sensor.

Regardless, you said you took the car to the dealership for diagnosis. What did they say was wrong and what was the suggested remedy?

I had brought it in before the welding was done....Thats when they said that getting that crack fixed would most likely solve the problem. So they suggested I just go to Midas to get that welded back together, so I did. They said if that didnt fix the problem they may have to replace both cat converters......
