Loud rotational clanking noise, possibly differential from staggerd wheel set up
loud rotational clanking noise, maybe from staggered 20" wheels on the AWD system. Refer to this thread.

Bought this car used and made the mistake of not driving it for a couple weeks to get used to all the sounds. I drove it for a couple days and then took it a custom shop for window tints. Just so happens there was a guy in need in selling his 20" Vossen wheels off his IS250 AWD and I had the budget. Thought it was safe and thought these guys knew what they were doing.
So far no mechanic and not even the dealer appears to know if this wheel configuration can cause the sound I'm hearing. One service guy said most likely yes, the other said no he sees it all the time...WTF, really, at a $150.00 an hour you can't tell me if this setup is bad for my trans/drive train?
Contacted Lexus directly and no response!!!
When I was at the dealership I noticed they actually run a staggered set up on the new models, although I did the tire rotational calculator and their set up is only off by aprox .56% from front to rear, where as mine is off by almost 5.06%!!!
Here is the oddest thing, ive taken this car to the dealer and they can not replicate the sound. Here is why, sometimes this sound disappears for a couple days at a time. Makes no sense! Twice Ive pulled this car into a shop with the sound happening as I pulled in and when they test drove it hours later, they could not get the car to make the sound anymore. I'm losing my mind!!!!!
What I've noticed is the sound is changing, getting louder, instead of a steady clank, clank, clank, sometimes its cla, clank, cla, clank.
The only trick I found to alter the sound is to pop the car in neutral when Im going about 20miles an hour and ive only tested this like 4x but the sound disappears when rolling in neutral and will almost immediately return when engaged back into drive. Generally when the car is turned off and parked, it also appears to not come back at start up.

your tyre's are off
you need to go through the awd thread and really understand the way the AWD system works on the 2IS
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...-part-uno.html
also your wheel specs would play a huge role , I would go back to stock till you get the right tyres to roll with.
