Headlights in oven.
Had a gent come into my work with tinted headlights internally. He removed em and placed them in the oven at a certain heat to seperate the plastic casing.
Anyone know the specifics for this process?

Low and slow, pry, put back in, repeat, and then glory... done it before. Tons of info available here on it just search "retrofit" the hardest part is making sure the adhesive doesn't touch the lens or reflector. Just go slow and it's a walk in the park. I can't remember the recommended temp but it will come up once u search.

Opened many-a-times at 225 for around 10 minutes. If your going to go through the trouble, I recommend adding some extra butyl sealant as insurance against moisture issues and shorted out ballasts...
The Retrofit Source makes some good stuff that's not overpriced.

That will take forever if u use just a heat gun and by the time you get one section warmed the rest will be cooled. U can use the heat gun to help once you start prying it open after taking them out of the oven.
I used the oven, a butter knife, and a chisel to act as a wedge while going around the headlight.

I've done mine and for others. PRE HEAT only. Which is your lowest setting on oven. Mike is on it. I prefer not to use a heat gun because it's more work. Leave it in oven and you're good to go.

Yeah I'll throw some pica up when I do it. There's already a gap in the seal cus there's inner moisture. Want to clean it out and darken them a tad bit.

Yeah as mentioned a heat gun can easily cause more harm than help if you don't know what you are doing. I bought one just for my retrofit and after 5 minutes realized I needed to stick with the oven method and not rush the process. Returned the heat gun the next day. Really not needed but one member in my retrofit thread said he used it to melt back the stringy adhesive so it wouldn't touch the bezel... I've been considering a retrofit with my IS lately. M45 with some bezel trimming I've always loved the shroud on those with the back light through the small cuts as daytime lights.

For those want to see the inside of a 2IS headlamp assembly; check out my retrofit build.
