I need to get the hood repainted. Did the bumper last year from a guy my family and I have been going to for 15 years. But im finding with my bumper that it chips to easily after a repaint. I had the same issue when this guy did my VW. I know there are a lot of factors that go into it. But im not driving my Lexus as much as I did my VW. Im only taking it out on the weekends, 10k per year. Mostly around town and some highway driving. So I found a shop that the local Lexus dealer takes there cars to. The guy tells me all the techs have to get certified through Lexus and what not. Im not getting body work done just a repaint. Does Lexus require certain paint and procedures when doing there cars? Or does it really not matter and up to me as far as where I want to take it?

I wouldn't stress about finding a Lexus certified body shop. Any reputable body shop is capable of doing it.

I would have to agree^
I worked for Acura and now Lexus and 9 times out of 10, bumper resprays aren't done perfectly. A good eye can tell right away.. Definitely not worth the premium. I had my front bumper redone at a lexus certified shop and there is a major imperfection on it but I let it go because I only paid $200 and it looks 100 times better than before..

Well I think the cost is the same $500 for both places. The guy at the Lexus cert. shop said he will strip the old paint and repaint. I dont know if its the same procedure at the guy I regularly go to ill ask. As far as look my guy does a good job with the paint. Blends it well, matches fine against the factory paint. All work is guaranteed and he even redid my VW bumper again for free after excessive rock chipping. My car isnt a show car by any means it just bothers the hell out of me that after I pay for this I see these rock chips again. I dont know if thats just how it is when you get a repaint. Maybe it just never holds up as good as factory.

I won't sweat certified or not it comes down to the painter/ equipment. You'll have to judge a painter from his work first hand by looking at the cars in his shop. Just cause he a Lexus painter doesn't mean he was the machine painting it from factory. As I'm getting my hood done next month too from paint flack/rust. My body guy charging me $450 strip the hood inside out and " blend the paint from the hood to fender as most shop won't even do that. My guy not certified but he still the best in my area.

Sewell lexus body shop....... looks like some kid rattle can the primer it was blotchy and wasn't smooth.

That doesn't even look blended right... The door and rocker panel both look darker than the fender. I've had my rear bumper done by a Penske body shop which is Lexus certified. They did a decent job with the paint and it has held up well but they also killed my battery by leaving the car in aux mode and they didn't install the retaining clips under the bumper cover when they were done. It's really hit and miss though. Just don't use an insurance recommended body shop... They have such high throughput that they could care less if you are satisfied with their work.
