Buying a 100k+ 2006 IS350
So I am trying to get an IS350 for some what cheaper than its resale is going for ()
My price is showing mainly 100k+ miles, 2006 models. Would you guys take this gamble? I usually buy all my used cars at 70k but my reasoning is I drive only 7k miles a year, so I can get away with the higher miles? Coming from an Infiniti which has been rock solid so needing some advice.

Just bought an 06 350 last month with 125k for $12,700 from a Lexus dealer. I was very against buying a vehicle with so many miles, but it looks and feels solid. I am guaranteed to get at least another 100k in *knock on wood* haha, good luck!

i recently purchased my 06 is350 about 2 months ago with 110k miles on it. its a really solid car.. just check your recalls on it like everyone else is saying.. my power steering rack just went out on me about 2 weeks ago so here's to my first task of spending an arm and a leg to get it repaired.

I havent driven an IS350 so cant say but drove a GS350 it was nice but having 100k+ miles will require things like shocks, brakes, tires, maybe steering rack like that guy ^^ go out which is not really cheap to replace on a luxury car. I drove a G37 for 25k two years ago now worth 15k and it was definitely more refined than my G35 dont know how less refined that 37 is compared to a 350?
My mind doesnt logically want a 2006 car with higher miles than a 2009 car with lower miles but I do like the IS350 design better thats why Im split
For reliability's sake my friend just sold his G35 with 205k miles still drivable so I think both brands are reliable. Just that the lexus brand holds more value cuz its has toyota parts.

Brakes, tires, suspension components WILL wear out regardless of vehicle. What you need to research is what wears out that isn't likely too. I know G35s tend to start burning oil later in their life.
How's the electronics shelf life? Are you throwing window regulators in often?
How often do you see AC need servicing?
How does the paint hold up?
Is the interior falling apart when it gets older?
My 06 is350 just hit 116k. It still looks gorgeous (and its black). Everything functions properly and it still retains its sophistication that a Lexus should.
Older cars regardless of make or model will start to show their age after a while. You said your friend had one with 205k and still driving. Thats awesome. But still driving and in good shape are two different things.
As far as the 06' is concerned. Problems areas include a "melting" dash and door panels. Some have experienced a bad navigation unit. a leaking timing cover is found throughout the model years. Not everyone has experienced all of these issues, some of us haven't had any. They are just things to have happened to more than one person.

With Nissan or Toyota, you are really getting some of the most reliable cars on the road; so either way you go, you'll be good. But having a'06 IS350 I purchased back in April '11 with 31k miles on it (now 79k), I've never once told myself...hey, I think I should get rid of it. To this day, it's still fun to drive, gets the looks (the good kind ), and reliable with good fuel mileage. Yes, it is 9 yrs old come Sept, so there are "normal" items that I've had to replace(battery, brakes, alternator, etc); but besides those and the NAV unit issue (well-known issue with 2IS models in the HOT southern states), I've had no issues to speak of. I've only spent around $1k to maintain my car for nearly the last 3.5yrs; and that includes the NAV unit issue.
Besides the brand new Mitsu I used to known, I've never driven a car I've felt so confident on getting my from A to B daily. And it does it in style and some PUNCH to boot!
The key will be finding one that has been well-maintained and documented.

So the higher mileage one has 4 past owners That sounds like a use and abuse kind of story to me....will look for 1st or 2nd owner with some records....might be kind of hard with my price range of under $15k.
And I know about components on older cars going bad but this is a difference of me buying the car and replacing all this stuff vs an 80k car and not having to do that till 20k miles later which is like 3 years driving time for me.
