Default Bellhousing issue - please help

Hi Guys

While driving my clutch just stopped working, so had the mechanic check it out and he told me something broke on the bellhousing and it will have to be replaced.

Problem is that the car is still under warranty but they want me to pay for the repairs.

Should my warranty not cover this as it does not seem possible that a bellhousing can be classified as wear and tear.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks

What kind of warranty do you have? You have to elaborate more that so we can tell you if its covered or not.

Yes, we need more details; model year, mileage, etc? Also, was it the original factory clutch and how miles on it? If you're within the factory warranty period AND had an OEM clutch kit in it, I'd see no reason why the bellhousing would not be covered by the Lexus powertrain warranty. The clutch kit itself is a "wear" item; so that will cost you some $$$. But if the dealership gives you an additional hassles, call Lexus Corp.

Thanks for the response guys.

Well its a 2007 IS250, I bought it second hand.
It has 140000km's on the clock, which is roughly 90 000 miles
The clutch was slipping when I bought the car and the dealer replaced it, along with the flywheel and throw out bearing with what he said was original Lexus parts(Dealer being Toyota), and since he did that replacement I only did about 1000 miles, then this happened.

I live in South Africa and the law here states that ALL "defects" shall be covered by warranty for 6 months from purchase date, except for "wear" items, such as clutch, brakes, battery etc.

i.e. All I need to know is if a broken bellhousing can be classified as "wear", to me it seems like it is a defect.

Well, bottomline, the bellhousing is not a wear item. But the factory warranty is expired, judging from the mileage. I understand "law" states whatever, but brakes/clutches/battery are expected to last longer than 1000 miles and DEFINITELY shouldn't cause damage to other parts of the vehicle when they fail. Sounds like either sub-standard components were installed or installation was sub-par. If the dealership will not fix the issue THEY created, perhaps time for a lawyer.
