Default Oil Change Advice

OK, so i'm planning to do a DIY oil change. My manual says with filter change it requires 6.3Litres. So my question is, after draining the oil and installing the new sump plug and new filter. should i add the full 6.3litres at once or should i add for example 6litres and then add the .3 as needed based on dipstick? I know for sure less than 6.3litres will drain out because oil level is quite low.

I would put 6 then run the engine for 30 second to get the oil circulated through the engine then check at the dip stick with the enigne off and just top off the oil

6.4 Quarts. Or 6.4 Liters?

Quarts > Liters.

User manual says 6.3litres, its measured in litres here in the UK.

also, before draining, is it worth starting the car? i have to start the car to drive it onto ramps.

Yes, not a problem starting the car. The oil should not be cold when draining. The higher oil temperature will actually raise the viscosity of the oil, allow the oil to flow out faster and assist in draining out finer particles.

I would not do this as a lot of the oil will remain in the engine giving you a lower oil reading than what's really there.

What i normally do is pour in 6, then check in a few hours or the next morning once the oil has had time to settle at the bottom of the engine. Then i top off the next morning to the middle of the dipstick.

I start the car to move it up the ramps too, but remember once you start the car, you have to let it drain for a little bit because some of the oil remains in the engine.
