Black Foam/Sponge Material Coming Out of AC Vents Help
Hey guys,
Last week I noticed that I was having these chunks of black foam/sponge material flying out of my ac vents every so often. When you try and pick them up, they almost turn to powder. What the hell is this? It hit me in my eye today and it itched for a while. I don't think it's the cabin filter tho so I'm at a loss.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

just a shot in the dark here but could it be the charcoal from your cabin filter?
easy enough to pull it out and have a look see. remember to put car in recirculate mode before you try to remove it though.

I was looking online and other cars have had similar issues. They say it has to do with the foam in the ac vents where it prevents outside air from mixing with inside air. Sorry for the jargon since ac is new to me. But idk..can someone confirm?

i had the same issues. it looks like foam that is placed in the ac vents to keep it from making noise. i've taken out my vents before to do work on the nav, and it looks like the foam sitting between the vents and the dash.

There is foam around the A/C ducts where they join...it is normal over time for this foam to become dry and brittle and fall apart. Just throw it away when you see it, nothing is broken or failing...if you really want to "fix" it you will have to replace all the A/C ducts, as well as remove the entire dash. I do not recommend this...

My 2006 IS 250 just started having this issue. A few pieces blew out of my vents this week. Doesn't *appear* to be anything major. Everything seems to work as normal with the vents. I guess time will tell.
