Welcome to the forum!
I don't know anything about the IS, but with every car you will have those who will adamantly preach against it.
If the IS is like most Toyota/Lexus products, it will be pleasant to drive and be more reliable than the industry average. When failures do occur though, be prepared to be bent over the parts counter.

Aa far as issues with the 2006 IS is concerned. I recommend visiting our 'IS Second Generation' sub forum and doing a search. The IS is a popular car so there's no shortage of discussions on it.

You think a 95 and 98 are old, try driving my 92 LS400 :P
It's been a fun car so far, real classy. If I could just afford some of the more expensive big ticket repairs that are around the corner(mainly due to miles and age, not design), then I would be tickled pink.

Welcome to CL. I have an 06' 250 manual.
There's a few recalls and TSB's. there's the famous pedal recall, there's the huge carbon build up issue, there's a new wiper recall, inside the trunk release lever, I had some oil leak that had a TSB, there's the aux input TSB.
That's all I can think of right now. A few but still a great car. The manual isn't that great though.

What exactly is the problem with Lexus and manual transmission (a good buddy of mine had a 6 speed IS250 and problems occurred left and right)

The only real thing I would be worried about recall wise is the carbon build up. Look for erratic idle and other tell tale signs such as lack of acceleration power and rough acceleration. Other than that the only recalls are things that you shouldn't have to worry about such as the wiper arm nut and little other things. The dealer covers the recalls at no cost to you so I wouldn't let them turn you off on the future purchase. Welcome to CL!

Welcome to CL. See if it has a carfax history, the fix for the CSP carbon build up might have been done. The info I've received on this forum has been excellent. Good Luck.

Im knew too just bought an 07 is250 so far it is a great ride but worried about the carbon build up issue. I think the work has been done on this car by the previous owner but I wanna double check to see if there are any open recalls on my ride. So far I have no complaints I love it
