Default Weird clicking noise from gear shifter

So I started noticing this sound coming from the shifter. When I put it in park and the let off the brake, I can see the shifter move a tiny tiny bit and then click. Any ideas?

Also, when I start the car and then put it in drive, the car lurches forward a bit. I wait for the RPMs to drop down after start up but it always does it.

It is the shift lock so you can't shift out of park without your foot on the brake. Part of its function is for the exact reason in the second paragraph of your post. People might put the car in drive without their foot on the brake and the car would lurch off and crash into something (see Audi 5000 issue from the 1970s). You still need to apply fairly heavy pressure on the brake pedal especially on a cold start because the engine does idle very high to warmup.

Doesn't seem out of the ordinary.

Were you parked flat or some kind of incline? Sounds like the car moved a bit when you leg go of the shift lock is keeping the car in place with the click.

The car lunches forward is because the car is still warming up, also normal. Feels like the car doesn't slow down after letting go of the gas and feels sort of like a cruise control.

The shifter moving a bit and then clicking is normal, like Toymota said, it's the shift lock.

Same with the car wanting to move forward at start, it's the higher RPMs. As long as it stops doing it when the car is fully warmed up, it should be fine.

Hmmmm well that definitely makes the worry go away! I park on in a flat parking lot but I had a feeling it was because of the higher RPMs during warm up. Thanks guys!

Default clicking noise under gear shifter

Everytime I put pressure on the brake there is a clicking noise under the shifter, as long as the engine is on. If I put my hand on the shifter I can feel it also. Any idea what the problem is and what the cost is to fix it? Are there any instructions on how to access under the shifter? I suspect it is a solonoid that does not allow the shifter to come out of park unless the brake is applied but it should not happen every time the brake is applied. It is an anoiying sound
