Wow, exhaust rusted out.... anyone else? Warranty?
So, this is an '06 IS250 with 61k mi...
While parking the car a couple weeks ago, I heard this bizarre springy *pop* from underneath the car, followed by a loud, rough exhaust note. Getting under the car that weekend, I saw that one of the clamps (front one) on the pass side exhaust heat shielding on the section-1 between the O2 sensor and under-car catalytic converter had rusted through and popped off.
Went to the dealer and picked up a new clamp and bolt, put it on. The loud leaky exhaust note persisted.
Upon closer inspection, I realized that the pipe itself (under the heat sheilding) had corroded severely and resulted in a leak straight through a hole in the pipe wall.
Has anyone else had this issue with rust/holes in this section of piping and any resulting warranty coverage/service bulletin etc on this sort of issue? Calling the dealer today, but would like to hear if this is a gray area and if anyone has had successful coverage or denials of this issue...

That section has the cats, that's why it falls under the emissions warranty.
(That being said, technically it would only be under the emissions warranty if it was the cat that failed. A rusted pipe may not be covered if the cat is still functioning).
