Default Put in a new battery. What a fiasco!

My '06 IS350 needed a new battery. Shoot, I can do that. Been changing out batteries since my first car back in 1958. (I'm THAT old) I even got the positive harness off the sleeve! Stubborn but I overcame that obstacle. Decided to just slip down to Sam's. It was close and I wanted to get it done. Bought the correct battery. DID NOT FIT. Appox. 1/4 inch too tall. The clamp would not work. Took the original and went to Costco to do some checking. Same problem....the battery they said was supposed to fit was exactly the same size as the one from Sam's. Too tall.

Called my friend who works at my local Toyota dealership parts dept. (much closer than the Lexus dealer) He fixed me up with a battery that fits perfectly. A better battery for a great price and did I mention this? IT FIT!!!!!! So, a job that should have taken an hour or less, cost me the better part of the day. All is well now though.

Thanks for hearing me out. I just have no idea how some of you are making a Sam's or Costco battery fit.

Thanks, but I did try that. Even without the housing/sleeve I needed the battery to be just a little less tall. Maybe I'm just too old to be doing this stuff myself.

NOOOooooo. That can't be.

Was the Sam's battery that you had purchased one of those "new" Duracells? They used to have Interstate...but recently switched. I'll probably just need up going to an actual battery company and get their "generic" battery for 2/3rds of the price.

Curious though, what was the cost of the Toyota battery and what was the group or model #?

The Sam's battery was an Energizer built by Johnson Controls. (so I was told) The # if I remember correctly was E25-S.

The Toyota battery (I think they said was made by Interstate) was an 84 month batt. Was just under $80.00 plus CA tax. I don't have the Toyota part # handy but will look it up if important.

Just make sure it fits. There is zero adjustment on the clamp/saddle that holds it in. The battery either fits or it doesn't. My new one FITS!!

Energizer eh? Maybe its a regional thing. $80 isn't bad though for a "dealership" battery. But I'd rather pay $50-60 for the same thing and pay the middle-man "fees".

I had the same issue yesterday, tried two different "exact fit" batteries, both to tall, I made the second one work though as I was not going to pay the crazy price the stealership wanted for theirs.

Well. sort of. The original said "Panasonic" on it. This one just says "Toyota Corp., 84 Months" I did NOT drive to my Lexus dealer for it. Found the exact fit at my local Toyota dealership.
