Battery too tall?

My 07 250's battery finally called it quits, which seems to me pretty normal, so I picked up a new battery today at Costco since I've heard it's pretty good bang-for-buck. Everything was going fine until I tried to put the clamp on it - seems the battery is just a bit too tall (probably about 4-5mm) for the spot and the clamp won't fit.

Like most other people, I am *not* using the plastic housing either. Anyone have any recommendations before I return it and get a different brand somewhere else?

EDIT: Well, I ended up just wiggling it into place. It's definitely far from a "perfect" fit but it should do for now.

I made sure it wasn't sitting on anything but the fit still wasn't quite right. It's kind of hard to describe,
but because the battery is just slightly taller than the original the harness ended up at an angle, whereas it used to be completely flat. Anyway, I ended up angling the screw (in the back) a little forcibly towards the front and then screwed the clamp/harness on while applying pressure. With the original OEM battery, it sits perfectly with a bit of extra room actually, no need for any strange maneuvering of the clamp/harness.

It's just the standard Costco Kirkland Signature battery they had listed for IS's, model 6. I've seen people say good things about them, it was only $66 (+ $9 deposit that you can get back when you return your old battery). I've got no need for a higher end battery (no aftermarket speakers, screens, etc.).

I wish I read this thread earlier.
I also bought a Kirkland battery from Costco today and am having the same problem. It's no.6 according to the book at Costco.
I think it's very hard to make it fit, even without the plastic case.
I'll return it and buy another one from somewhere else.

I recently got a battery from Costco as well. I had to ditch the plastic cover and then was barely able to get the tie down bracket to fit.

Yes the Costco battery doesn't fit the oem Lexus holder but cost more than half off. Just don't use the plastic cover you'll be fine.

Does anyone know what size the Costco battery is? I've done some research, and I believe it's a size 34 or 35 which really aren't a good fit for any Lexus. A size 24 or 24F will fit better and is a little wider. My wife's ES would take a size 24 and My F and 24F (the positive post on mine is on the right and her's is on the left. I'll be replacing both this fall.

LOL yeah I got a battery from Costco like a month ago and it also wouldn't fit with the plastic cover on.

Ended up returning it right after i realized and ended up getting a new on from somewhere else I don't remember.

measure the stock battery and the location of the posts terminals. Find the closes battery they have to it.

From some searching and reading, it seems like the one they're getting is the closest one. Costco doesn't have a huge selection.

Quote: Nope, Not in December, TODAY!!!!! My wife's battery failed yesterday and our cars were bought together so I replaced both batteries at the same time. I got Bosh Premium Power, They were rated pretty good in Consumer Reports. A Group 24 for me and a Group 24F for her.

Why Lexus chose batteries for the ES and the IS that are exactly the same size and capacity but have different polarity is beyond me

My quote from this thread:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ggestions.html

The Group 24 size is the correct replacement for the IS. The battery Costco sells for the Lexus IS is NOT a Group 24 and therefore does not fit properly.
