Default Free play in the side mirror casing

Probably because I fold the side mirrors every time when I park my car, some free play has developed in both the side mirrors' hinges. They dont create noise when the car is in motion but it is annoying as some scratches have been developed in the hidden paint area on the bases.

I have searched through the threads and some say the dealership is not able to fix it.

I wonder for those who has changed the puddle lights and had to open the side mirrors, can the side mirrors be tightened up by the screw when you open the mirror casings?

Thanks

Thanks

when you do the puddle lights the screws you take out are the ones that connect the front and back piece. i didnt have to take the whole mirror off.

Thanks for your response. Actually what I meant is when you open the mirror casing, did you see the screw for the hinge that connects the top and bottom of the mirror?

I have seen a mirror assembly without being on the car. If looking at the bottom of the base of the mirror, I can only see two screws that are used to be mounted on the door, and not for the hinge of the mirror.

Thanks

Hmm, I'd like to hear an answer to this as well. My passenger side mirror is fairly loose and I would like to tighten it up.

If you're talking about tightening the front and back piece of the mirror housing together then yes there are a total of 4 screws behind the mirror itself that are used to hold the mirror housing together. I changed my puddle lights and my driver side mirror housing would not snap back together properly so I had to screw it together tight to get the housing seam to disappear.

Thanks for your post. Actually I and the other poster are referring to the screw that is responsible for folding the side mirrors.

When we fold the side mirrors, there is some free play.

For my case, when folding the mirror towards the door, the mirror actually goes beyond a bit what is normally allowed.

Upon closer inspection on the top surface of the hinges, some paint is peeled off.
