Default oil change at toyota/beat the price

so i just wanted to share a trick i do for some of you guys that dont do your own oil change and want to save some money. some ppl dong care and have money to get it done at lexus but not me. so here it is. what i do i go to walmart get a 5qt bottle and 2 single 1qt bottles of mobile one, comes out to around 36 bucks or change plus tax. then i go to the toyota dealership and get an oem filter for 6 buxs. then i make n appointment for an oilchange and tell them i have the stuff and they charge me 15.86 i believe total. so here it is 36+6+15.86=57.86. round up to 60. So before setting up my 15 oil change appointment i had called the previous day before i bought the stuff and asked how much for an oil change with them providing the oil and filter + service obviously. they said 89.99+tax. so im saving about 30 bucks. ive done this twice. so technicaly my next oil change is going to be free because of the savings on my previous two times. note this is at my dealership i go to (jimmy vasser toyota in napa) i would call your local dealership and ask how much they charge if you have the supplies. and i dont know how much lexus charges the closest one to me is about a 30-45 min drive so its kinda an inconveniece when toyota/lexus is the same thing. i ususally do my own oil changes but the last attempt i did i broke two filter wrenches, so i gave up and just had them do it. plus i dont get dirty for 15 bucks. just thought i would share.

Just make sure they're using your synthetic oil that you bring in. A few members here have posted stories of the technicians taking the oil brought for the oil change, and they instead would pour in the Toyota oil. My buddy saw it happen and immediately confronted the technician about it.

Do you tell them what the car is before you show up? Doesn't the Toyota dealership try to tell you it's more work to get to your filter so try to bump up the labour?

I can see that happening in here if I try that... I would watch them pour your oil for sure. My dealership has all these little 18 year old punks in the back. Wouldn't put it past them to switch the oil...

How much are you guys paying for a oil change at Lexus? I haven't gotten one done yet (just got my car 2000 miles ago). I heard its almost $100?!

It varies greatly between dealers, and between what you ask for.

At my dealer if you ask for the 10,000 mile service (which is just an oil change) it's $150 because he'll list a bunch of BS "inspections" the bill.

If you ask for an oil change it's $50 and you get the exact same service.
