Actually, I think its too see if anyone has problems/issues driving without their engine covers on. To the OP, if thats your point, then no its just a cover. Its really only there for covering up your engine.

in my opinion, it makes no big difference with the heat. The hood is the key item trapping the heat.... not the engine cover.
It's like some people removing it to reduce weight on the car. Lighter car = faster car. But if you think about it, shaving a pound or 2, is not going to make a big difference.

So the purpose is mainly cosmetic and dust "protection" I presume.

The engine cover is not even 2lb, but it is used to trap heat and insulate sound. All the engine cover is is a plastic cover with about 1" of foam under, during the cold winter you might see some significant improvement with the engine temp if you turn off your car for a quick trip to the coffee shop.
I took mine off and I noticed the the engine ticking noise is more noticeable, which is nice because I wanted to hear more engine sound lol
