Maybe I wasn't clear, but the real purpose of the tape is to prevent the film edges from peeling up when you buff the panels without the film, not really for preventing build up.

With that being said:
- over lap the tape, when you polish/buff panels without the film
- remove tape
- hand buff the panels with the film, also hitting the areas that were previously taped to have a layer of polish/wax
- Once finished with the buffing, take a damp fine microfiber towel and run it gently over the film edges to remove build up. Or you can use a Quick Detailer and a fine microfiber towel to remove the buildup.

My car is SFP, so build up really isn't noticeable at all, so the damp microfiber towel works for me.

P.S. Do NOT use any polish/wax that is abrasive like a cutting compound.

The guy that did my tints gave me a price using expel of $1,500 for the front clip, or $1000 for the front and half the hood. At this price I politely declined the service.

If I can recall, I paid under 500. Front bumper and lip kit; 3m clear. Best investment and choice I've made on the car.
