XM Radio
IS250AWD with Nav
Thinking about getting XM Radio.
How much does the dealer charge for install?
How much is the monthly fee?
Are a lot of functions locked out when driving?
or am i just better off getting an xm receiver

If you can read and understand English you can install it yourself in about an hour, two if you're very very slow and careful. Or you can pay the dealer hundreds of dollars to do the same thing.
XM is $12.95/mo, cheaper if you buy long amounts of service in advance, but you can usually talk em into $77/yr if you tell em it's too expensive and you plan to cancel because of the cost. (You can get 3 months free trial with a new account, then you drop the cancel threat to get the $77/yr rate).
Driving, standing still, no change in functionality whatsoever.

I'm getting an aftermarket (non-Lexus) XM kit installed. The guys at the shop--who I trust, BTW--said they were going to "try to use the shark fin" but they weren't sure that they could, meaning they might have to install the kit's antenna on the hood, dash, or trunk.
Is that right? Can it really not be connected to the shark fin? I mean come on...we can run the iPod through the Nav, surely a pro could use the XM-ready antenna?

The Lexus kit is plug-n-play, uses all the factory parts (and sharkfin) and you can install it yourself, all in the trunk, in like an hour.

Don't overestimate my abilities!
Not sure I knew about the Lexus kit. I don't think they had it the last time I did this with my 07 ES350. Most of the accessories and stuff I asked my service dept about..."we haven't done a lot of those..." made it seem like I was asking for fringe stuff.

I just did it 2 nights ago based on this thread:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...o-install.html
It was really easy to do, and I had dealers quote me some serious high prices too. I am really happy with it, you should try it!
