I can confirm that some of these batteries die an early death without warning. It happened to me when my car was 2 1/2 months old. The replacement battery has been working great for 2 years and 5 months.
I just bought mine today (Energizer) from Walgreens for 5 bucks.

Nice I didn't know this.

Oh and thanks to everyone who put instructions on how to do this. I've been dealing w/ a low battery warning on one of my fobs for at least a few months now. My car was bought new 2 years ago

The post of mine you quoted is several years old. CR1632 batteries used to be very difficult to find, but as the size has become more popular they are now readily available at Radio Shack, Walgreens, and other local merchants.

Thanks, Just ordered the Panasonic CR1632 3 Volt Lithium Coin Battery (pack of 5, $6.15, not eligible for Amazon Prime, sold by National Deals on amazon)

Dealling with a real messy situation right now actually. I came home today and now have no idea what happened to the key fob- not sure if its still in the car (alhough i swear ive searched everywhere), if it fell out near the car...

I k ow I can't start the car because when I try it says key not detected

My other fob's battery has been dead for a while and ive been meaning to replace it. I tried and am able to start the car by putting the dead battery fob against the star/stop button. I can't lock the doors though. When I manually open and lock the car doors and close it, the doors unlock. If I sit in the car and lock the car will stay locked.

Well, I think I beat everybody - I bought my car just a few weeks ago and got the low battery on the key message. Should I order thru the dealer or go thru battery bob?

Buy online like others stated in this thread. They are about $5 at local CVS/Walgreens/Radioshack or if you can wait they are about $6 for 5 pack online from Amazon or BatteryBob. Dealers will charge around $10 for 1.

I think its not a bad idea to have a couple in stock, in the glove box. You still might have to use the metal key to get in, but that will be one time.

Its on Lexus manual page 337 if you have one. If not this what you have to do: Take out the mechanical key, remove the cover buy using a flat screw driver, inserting exactly in the corner from where mechanical key came out and twist left-right to open/ its very straight forward; after that its pretty obvios once its open remove the depleted battery and insert the new battery with a "+" terminal facings down and ..thats it. Hope it helped
