Loud crack sounds like rock hitting windshield fixed
Just pick up my car after 6 weeks in the shop. So far so good. I had the loud Crack sound every 15-20 minutes like a rock was hitting the glass. I had the TSB done for the dash pop, but didn't fix it. It happend one time just after I turned the car off in a parking lot---I wasn't even moving...
I drive 150 miles a day and mostly smooth roads so it's not about hitting a pothole or something. Happens cold or hot weather, AC on or off.
The dealer ripped apart my dash and around the area inside and outside the car (wiperblade assembly). Anyways, it's behind the radio head unit. He sourced some liquid hardning compound from Mercedes and encased all the connection points behind the radio head unit. So far so good after driving over an hour. I'll report if it comes back next week since I drive so much.
My dealer is going to write up the exact details and send it to corporate to publish. It probably won't be a TSB since only a handfull of cars have it after the dash pop TSB. PM me if you want the dealerships name in Columbus OH. He got the idea from a dealership in Chicago but they never wrote it up (they might not have been lexus, but Benz or BMW?).

Yes, new lexus loaner cars the whole time. I now know that the rest of the Lexus fleet is too boring for me. No IS-F loaner, but they do have one in the showroom to sit in. Those big cars can put you to sleep on the highway. Comfy but boring.
2 weeks into the ordeal, I went back in to show the manager of the dealership the problem and other rattles were noticed as not being there before. I guess the last time they ripped into the dash they tightened those up too. Dash sounds like the day I bought it meaning no rattles. If the "crack" comes back they'll try again, but really if I get a bunch of rattles, I'll just get rid of the car. --it is scary to let them rip into your dash, but it's a car.
