Scary indeed!!

I leave my spare smart key at my buddies house. So should I ever need it, Imma force her to bring it to me. Yes she threatens to steal the Lex.

Is there anyway to test the battery life of this Smart Card Key?

I know for the regular smart key, the range is reduced when the battery gets old.. range as in terms of using the remote (LOCK/UNLOCK/TRUNK).

So for this situation... how could we know in terms of early warning signs?

The smart wallet key battery should last longer than the smart key since you won't be using it as much (it doesn't have buttons). The battery is also larger so it should hold a charge longer.

The key is a smart access system and, as I've mentioned above, incorporates a rolling code. It also will send voltage readings to the smart ecu in the car to alert the system of the battery's voltage level. If it runs low the multi-info display will alert the driver before the voltage depletes to where the smart access feature is rendered useless. Then you have the flat key to gain access to the vehicle.

I purchased the Smart Key and purchased an extra battery with it. I don't really carry too much cards in my wallet so it should be easy to place the extra battery somewhere in my wallet in case of such an emergency (like running out battery) occurs. It's a good $3-$4 investment, which I recommend other to do. I would even suggest purchasing an additional one and place it somewhere in the car in case the car tells you it's running out of battery.

^^^ I see. I still suggest having an extra battery in the car because even with low power, it could still open the car and gives you a chance to replace your battery. Definitely worth the shot and couldn't hurt.

keeping an extra battery inside the car is a great idea. i think im gonna get one of those magnetic key holders and put a battery for the regular key fob and a battery for the card key in there and hide it somewhere on the outside of the car.

Hi carchitect,
I saw your post about programming a spare key fob. great work.
I try to have my dealership to program a spare.
I talk to my dealership the service manager insists of do it with a master reset.
Do you have any other good ideal?

thanks

So I just bought one of these and will be getting it linked to the car soon. How do you replace the battery? I want to know how to do it, and don't want to risk breaking a clip of some sort. Also do you think itd be a bad idea to have this in a wallet with a magnetic money clip??

nm, just figured out how to open the battery area based on pictures....

Still wondering about the money clip. The magnet is pretty hefty too...

How has your cell phone battery life been like? Notice any difference?
