Short rattling sound on cold start up?
Has anyone else heard this before?
If the temps are 60 and below, and my car is on a slight uphill incline, I will hear a 2-3 second noise on start up.
Could something have dropped in my engine area? The noise only happens once at a time.(IE if you stop and restart, no noise)
My car is an 07, with 10K miles. My first change was 5w20, mobile 1. With the second change, I went with 5w30 mobile 1, because of this engine noise... which still happens
Both oil changes were at the dealer

It fixed the problem for my '06

My car has less than 10K mi on it and it has made this noise 2 times. Once at the begining of summer on a 100+ degree day (after an hour of being parked), and 2 days ago when it was cold and rainy out.
Since the noise has happened 2 times in 9 months, I think it would be hard to get the dealer to reproduce the noise but it will be something i mention at the next oil change.

I have the same problem as you guy. When i leave my car out in the sun (100+F) or in my garage for a few day, it makes this wierd rattle noise. It sound like metal is grinding on metal. I thought it's the viscosity of the oil, so i changed to 5w-20 but the sound is still there.

I listened to the noise in the other link. I am totally afflicted. This Sucks.
I wonder if its worth getting the top of the motor rebuilt to stop this noise. It must be pretty major if its taking almost a month of repair and Head gasket is on the list.
Even worse... is that my car was produced just barely before the fix

The "month of repair" is due to difficulty in obtaining parts, not difficulty in performing the work.

Im getting mine done tomorrow had to wait an extra week for parts to be ordered. My service advisor said that it doesn't do any harm to the engine and that it'll take about a day and half to get it done. There was a few people standing outside the mall talking and what not, pretty much all looking at me. Started up the car and made that clacking sound. What an embarassment.
