In Europe Lexus does the same discrimination. We don't have manual IS250 nor IS350, and some options that you have in th IS aren't available at Europe sucha se autolock

Same here in the UK. I'd be interested in an auto diesel IS220d but I drove the manual version and wasn't impressed with the shift quality - plus in real life I was only getting 38-40mpg.

I test drove that same diesel in the Toyota Avensis (they seem to put it in most models now) and all I can say, it was LAME. It did not feel much better than the standard 2,0 liter diesel. Even if it has much better specs, the feeling I have when I drive it plays a major role. And as the Toyota did not offer an automatic on diesel too, I bought the 2,4 petrol engine. I would certainly prefer the 350 about the 220d. And why will there be an IS-F when there is no 350? The gap between the 220d/250 and the IS-F is so big. When Lexus thinks there is no market for a 3,5l engine why offer 5,0l ??? To see if there is a market for a 3,5 you only have to look at the German brands offering similar engines and you don't have to be a corporate manager to count many of them.

It has nothing at all to do with discrimination. How many new diesels can you buy in the US from any manufacturer? There won't be any unless they can meet the tough standards for pollution control and be able to use the new low sulfur diesel fuels. Starting next year you will begin to see a comeback of diesels, but until the new fuels are widely available, you may be able to buy the car but not the fuel.
