I was reading one thread and found out the IS in japan comes with 30 GB HDD. I
was like wtf why japan gets all the good stuff???? Do you guys think that for the 08 model year it will become available for the US??? If it does I wish that us that have the disc will be able to upgrade, but honestly I think it will not be possible , I think it will require to change the whole navi system? It will ne nice to have the 30GB HDD to rip music to the car and also that way we will not longer need the navi disc, you will only have to take the car to the dealer for software update. So I made a list of all the stuff that the Japanese people has and the US models don't:


1-30 GB HDD
2-Side marker lights
3-Automatic Folding mirrors
4-TV turner in the navi
5-Remote star OEM
6-Rear fog lights

So who is with me??? I wish my IS would have come with all that good stuff

probably because Japan is 5-10 years ahead of us in terms of technology so having a car without all those goodies is the equivalent of not having NAV available for luxury cars here in the US. The Japanese population has come to expect all these goodies.

no no no just because Japanese are all selfish! So they just keep all the goodies to themselve even they are making money out of the lot that selling oversea!

I get your point, but I don't think this has anything to do with that, the new G35 already has the HDD navi.
Even the impala has a remote star!!!
A lot of cars has the side marker lights already
Even my mazda too has the automatic folding mirrors

I went to the Corvette factory in Dec. All European Vettes get side markers, no U.S.or Canadian Vettes get them. U.S. law's don't require them.

The LS which just came out in October was the first Lexus with HDD here in the states, so I would expect Lexus to catch on soon, maybe the 08 IS?
The G35 probably needed a topper, because they came out about year after the IS, so its just a comparitive advantage things,
My Sequioa had auto folding mirrors, don't really think it is a necessary thing for IS because it is small to begin with, but I would find it a benefit as I my school parking lot has a lot of tight spaces next to walls and sometimes you got no choice but to squeeze in and its a pain forgeting to move them back and you are on the freeway

Another reason that they are out in Japan first is to test the bugs and test popularity, they wouldn't make it an option here in the states if people weren't really interested in it. The market in Japan is very competitive so those tech gadgets go a long way in the car market, more so than here. Toyota has always done things at there own speed and it doesn't seem to have hurt them.

I am glad we don't have side markers...IMO they're ugly. A HDD would be nice though.

folding mirrors are essential when parking in the city!!!
