Default Question about IS350 18" wheels + tires

As far as I know, the tires that come with 18" IS350 wheels are summer tires. Does anyone here run summer tires on these snowy days? If so, how does it drive on snow? Would it be necessary to run with all-season tires?

Summer tires + snow = you no go anywhere. Why you'd even try is beyond me. Even with snow tires, rear wheel drive isn't the best thing going in the snow, but it'll get you around. With summer tires (which, holy crap, are for the summer) forget it. You'll just caus problems for you and whoever your end up rear ending.

There's a very good reason they call them summer tires. You're taking your life into your own hands if you try to drive on icy/snowy roads with them. Don't do it - get cheap rims with appropriate tires for winter.

haha...
I'm trying to put the 18" IS350 wheels on my IS250 AWD, but I guess I should buy some all-season tires first.

why not just keep both sets and use the 18" from the 350 when weather permits. you have to do what you feel comfortabel with. i am in chicago and i leave them on year round but i also dont have to drive if it gets that bad out. but i figure you have 2 bad months out of the year that you may need all season tires.

All-season is only good for an inch of snow. I suggest you stick with the summer tires on the 18" for summer use, and use your stock 17" All-Season for winter use or put winter tires on them.

That makes me think twice now.
I'm a tire dummy.. Why do they make Summer tires? what's the purpose of them? I thought that summer tires are also slippery in wet weather, such as rain and stuff. That's why I thought putting on all-season tires would be much safer than summer tires for all the time. I guess I'm wrong?

Summer tires are designed for maximum dry weather traction, yes. You won't get close with all-seasons or winter tires on dry pavement. All-seasons are a good all-around compromise, and (from personal experience) can be used quite well in more than an inch of snow (probably up to about 6 inches, which is good for most places with cold winters ;-)). Regardless, if you live in a metropolitan area, there's probably plenty of salt trucks and snowplows, and way less of 6 inches of snow on the roads.
