Because the dealerships expect you to pay them to do them and shorter intervals=more $ for them would be the really cynical answer.

The response-to-sludge answer is probably a good one as well, despite the 2IS not having the same engine as the cars impacted by it.
*The sludge fiasco settlement cost them over a billion dollars, so they are paranoid and listening to a lot of chicken-***** lawyers. Toyota/Lexus took a huge hit financially and PR-wise on this after their failed attempt to blame the owners, even if in some cases the owner was at fault.

The fact is the scientific evidence supporting oil change intervals of 7500 miles (or more) is so well documented that the dealers are supporting it too.

Yes Toyota/Lexus could try to escape their warranty obligations, but it would end up costing them again both financially and PR-wise just like it did before above*. They are smarter than that now.
