IS350 1/4 Mile Time, Fact or Fiction?
I was over at is350forums.com and they have posted a 1/4 mile time for a stock IS350. Can anyone verify this time and trap speed:
1/4 Mile ET - 14.581*
1/4 Mile MPH - 98.850
1/8 Mile ET - 9.605
1/8 Mile MPH - 78.300
0-60 Foot ET - 2.416
Temp F - 77.0
Car - Lexus IS350
Year - 2006
Also, I've heard reports that Car and Driver is claiming a 0-60 of 5.1, this must be CD's typical use of exageration or using a stop-watch to time the runs?
PS: I'm new to the site, my name is Tod

how do you verify it? It very much depends on the driver, car mags usually have drivers who are experienced on the drag strip so they know how to launch the car properly - this is how C&D gets their results, other mags might choose not to do torque launch which is why their times are lower... people can get as much as 1 second difference between drivers, in the same car...

car mags don't use stopwatch in formal testing, they have a fifth wheel (they use stopwatch and seat-of-the-pants only in previews and impressions). Some magazine testers do use more aggressive lauching techniques that real world owners may hesitate to use. In my opinion, the 5-60 time more accurately reflects real world performance; and IS350 did well in that regard, too, only a few ticks slower in C&D's result (some cars, esp. those with turbos, show a greater than 1 sec difference between 0-60 and 5-60).

when car mags do their tests, often they'll disclose how they launched the car, at what rpm's, etc. etc.
the rest test is to see how many people can actually replicate it.
oftentimes, car manufacturers send "ringer" cars to be tested, as unethical as it may be. the evo (2003) tested at a 0-60 in 4.62 which very few people could replicate (the 2003 was with the smallr 9.8cm^2 exhaust housing)

Looking at the trap speed of 98 mph, it is 3 -4 miles lower than what most of the tests have been suggesting. Therefore, that tells that the launch was really horrible and from very low rpm.

What exactly is the question? If you are asking why is this so slow then the other posts pointing to reasons for the lower than expected trap speed and the lousy 60ft time. If you are surprised and suspect because you do not believe this car can go that quickly I would say the other way around. In the hands of a reasonable driver (not even great) I would think sub 14 seconds is no problem. Check my sig unless you suspect me

Actually I don't know that I'd call it funny as I hadn't seen those numbers before, in all honesty the numbers you posted seem to make more sense. Fortunately for those of us here who enjoy reliability as well, it's nice to see that even with the faster BMW times, the IS350 still came about ahead in the SPEED department too!
