Well they did say something promising to us the fuel economy of the new GR series engines should be in the 20s and greater for city economy. Because the vehicles that are available right at this moment are pre-production hand built cars that end up dismantled or used for training, they are not regular production models that can be used for EPA testing. D-4 technology and the GR series' engine efficiency is already phenomenal. Just take a look at the existing 3GR-FSE in the GS300, 4GR-FE in the Avalon and even the 1GR-FE found in the Taco and 4Runner.

The fuel economy could possibly sell me on this vehicle.

Thanks for all the Specs
I am going to wait for 2nd year production. I don't want red wood, but I really want the Illuminated Scuff Plates. I've had Red wood on my last 2 cars & I am tired of that.
I really want the Performance Lux Plus Pkg with illuminated Scuff Plates (not available) I could possibly go with the aluminum trim but I really want Blackwood & Black Leather IS350. Why leave off a cool option like Illuminated plates when you open door? Why are you forced to have Red wood for this?
I hope 2nd year they will offer a combo I really want. Till then I will keep my 98 SC400.

Thanks for the info! One bummer is that I thought Bluetooth was going to be standard. According to the specs. you have to order the Navigation system in order to get it. I assume SmartAccess is still standard though right?
Also, it's really hard to believe that the weight distribution is the same for the RWD and AWD 250 and the 350 even though the overall weight for each is different. That would be some feat of engineering if true.
I also noticed that you get a LOT of stuff on the Performance and Premium Luxury Plus Packages. It's going to be tough choosing between them. This is the one area where Lexus shines over BMW. Their option packages usually give you a lot of stuff at a very reasonable price. BMW's options are very expensive. I think a base IS will cost almost the same as an equivalent 3-Series. But I bet a loaded Lexus will undercut the BMW by a wide margin if the packages are reasonably priced.

I don't think the bore and stroke specs are correct for both IS250 and IS350. If I use the bore and stroke measurements posted, I came up with 1667cc (102 cu. in.) for IS250; and 2303 cc (141 cu. in.) for IS350. Is that a typo on the bore and stroke numbers?

toyota hyped up their direct injection technolgy pretty good. now we all expect some high magic numbers for EPA gas miliage rating from this new crop of di engines.
i think with six speed, 306 hp, 277lb tq, i would guess to get an average combined 24 mpg for the is350, the rating would probably be 21city/30 highway.

IS350
110lbs heavier than the 330i?
BMW lists their weight as unladen instead of listing as curb wt, no weight for the auto specifically
3series comes w/a standard moonroof
330i fuel capacity
15.9 gal
IS350
17.17 gal
330i
runflats, no spare
IS350
wider rear allseason tires, w/spare
BMW stereos tend to suck, 3series is a 9speaker compared to the IS's 13speakers
BMW heated mirrors, leveling HID's and windshield washers standard
IS350 is variable muffler, quieter, probably stiffer structure, more airbags
BMW is willing to use extensive aluminum to keep wt down. subframes, suspension arms, steering rack, calipers (less upsprung wt)
reliabliity aside looks like the two are pretty evenly matched, neither one is superior to the other, IMO.
btw Avalon gets 22/31mpg, I expect the same for the IS350
