5 door version?
Has anyone heard of any plans for a 5-door version of the IS? Not to be confused with the current IS version Sportcross!
The Sportcross is supposed to be redesigned on a new larger platform. According to Popular Mechanics: http://www.popularmechanics.com/auto...s/1318641.html

2006 Lexus SportCross
The next model to wear the SportCross badge will be larger than the current RX 330 crossover SUV. In fact, it will be based on the newly introduced Toyota Sienna minivan, according to our inside sources. Expect the new SportCross to have a very large sunroof, room for seven, and ample storage space. Because it will be a Lexus, it will boast the latest technological and luxury innovations. Initially, power will be from the familiar 230-hp 3.3-liter V6 paired with a 5-speed automatic. Down the road, look for a version of the company's 4.3-liter V8 and an automatic transmission with race car-style paddle shifters. Lexus's IS 300 currently wears the SportCross badge, but it will be replaced by 2006.
So will Lexus make a 5-door IS to compete with the upcoming 3er and C-Class wagons? If not, it would seem to be a hole in Lexus' IS offerings because 5-doors are pretty popular in Europe. A 5-door with AWD would be real nice dontcha think?

I do like the SportCross idea though. Sort of like what the HPX concept was. That was a cool concept.

I have heard it was dropped to. But the estate is needed in Europe and IMO, it was a nice spin on the wagon here. Goodness I hve flirted with getting a IS X-cross for the utility and the sake of doing something different.
I hope it comes. As ^^^ stated, the HPX maybe coming but that is GS based.

I'd have to say the coolest 5-door to this day in age would have to be the Mazda6 with the liftback (sorta like the Scion tC), I thought that was a very clever way of including a hatchback without hindering style.
Also, I heard that Infiniti is planning on releasing a G35 wagon?

Autocar rumor
Autocar article suggests an estate (station wagon) version is in the works!
http://www.autocar.co.uk/News_Article.asp?NA_ID=214571
In the nearer future, Lexus is also planning an estate version of the new IS
Makes sense for the Euro market. Hopefully Lexus will bring it to the US...

Looks like someone's barfalicious photoshop attempt, with Volvo inspiration.
BTW, does anyone else think that Volvo's (and Honda's on the CR-V) "taillights to the sky" trademark design is just hideous? I hate that look with a passion.
