It really depends on the dealership that services your vehicle. Some absolutely will while others may not.

I say go in and let them know you expect it to be a warranty issue(don't be a jerk). Next oil change or service you get done just add that to the list of what you want done. If there is no scrape or missing paint it in fact could just be a part defect.

Just don't go in and ask them point blank: "Is this covered under warranty?" It is too easy for a service writer that may not have the authority to make that decision to say "no". Be nice, but make them work for you and make it hard for them to tell a brand new customer that just dropped big $$$$ "no we will not fix it"

I say it is better than 50/50 you get it warrantied as long as you did not actually hit a curb and have curb rash and a crack.

If they covered it it would be as a favor. The damage did not result from a covered cause as listed in a vehicle warranty. File a claim against the city when your not even sure how tha damaged occurred? Claims against the city are the hardest claims to recover on. You gotta prove negligence. If its enough you can file an insurance claim if you can make the cause of loss a a comprehensive one. If it goes down as collision your policy will be surcharged.

^Aftermarket parts and non-dealer modifications yield a fast, efficient and justified denial. This man said nothing about having lowered his vehicle. If so, my original answer still applies.

Thanks for all the info and opinions everyone..
I had my car serviced recently with some warranty work (dash rattle, alignment) done as well.. You'd figure the tech would have caught this when the car was on a lift. They always seem to catch & mention issues that require a fee (condensation in Brake lines, dirty fuel injection etc). It's too bad I discovered it afterwards. There aren't any curb rashes anywhere on the car b/c I've been extremely cautious up to now.
I'm going to call the dealer when I get some free time from work.
I'm sure they're not going to cover this like most of you mentioned but I guess there's no harm in trying..

I'd ask nicely what the dealership thinks about it. You may be surprised what they say.

The other option suggested about complaining to the city and filing a complaint is just plain irresponsible and downright contemptible.

I wouldn't try and soak someone else for damage that I might have incurred myself.

What goes around comes around.

Good luck.
