I have that same question. I'm hearing it called the same thing...

On a side note, for those that want a carcoal filter without the $60 pricetag, you can get the regular a/c filter, then get an over-the -range fan charcoal filter element, take it apart, and put the charcoal part in your filter housing first, then the regular filter on top, that will keep it in place and voila charcoal filter.

Miller Toyota in Manassas VA has this part for $22 plus tax (for those who are local). I bought the same thing (I checked the part number) from Pohanka Lexus for $47 and some change with tax.

I don't know how they sleep at night. Oh, wait... they sleep on pillows of my cash.

Good one.

Thanks for the great write up. Got a DIY this coming weekend. Let's see how much my local Lexus dealership charges for the filter...

Hey everyone, I think I just did the stupid 'recirc' thing... I've done my own air filter a couple of times. Heck I even use a 3M filtrete and make my own air filter. So I was over-confident and just blew through the process...

But when I opened up the area in the back of my glove box it looked odd. I thought the oil-change place maybe messed up, so I was using too much 'oomph' and forgot about the recirc thing... I popped the 'hood' up that had come down.

I'm afraid I'm SOL now. Just undid any savings on filters by breaking the recirc/hood thing. And now when/if I bring it in, my home made filter will be in there too.

Did I really break it by lifting it when that 'hood' was down?

Thanks.

Demik's post said exactly that, above.

One other note - the first time I replaced mine, I had no issues. But, the second time, in step 5, removing the trap door, I got fumble fingers and dropped the door as I removed it. Well, on my '06, at least, there is a crack just below the door, and it fell into it. It was not a piece of cake getting it out of there.

I hate to say it, but this is the most important post in this thread, including the original poster's write up.
