DIY aftermarket amp power wire install step by step with pictures
#106
Im planning on installing an aftermarket double din and want to run my speakers through a aftermarket 4ch amp connected to my double din. I look at my stock amp and was wondering if anyone could help me with what wires go to which channel. its a pretty small amp 50rms x 4 @ 2ohms.

alright so i'm planning on install an aftermarket sub and amp. This will be my first install but I've been reading a lot of thread on here and think that I'm ready to start the installation. I reed on this thread that people used t-tap instead of splicing the stock amp wires. I was looking into buying some t-tap but sure which one to buy. they have t-tap for 10-12 gagae, 14-16 gauge, and 18-22 gauge. Which one should i buy. thanks

oh btw. for those of you that are tapping into the door speakers.. DON'T! i learned this from the SC guys.. the sub systep sounds 100X better when you tap into the SUBWOOFER signal itself.. don't know why the hell we even tapped into the door speakers... i don't know which color it is on the connectors behind the amp.. but i just stole signal from the connector attached to the OEM sub itself. worlds difference!

I tapped both, running the subs on 1 channel, left woofer on 1 channel, and right woofer on another channel. The mid woofers are to bypass the original LPF that the amp puts out to the sub. I think the original sub only has the really low bass, so you're missing out a little bit of the higher frequency bass. IDK, I couldn't really tell much difference between the two, but my tuning might be off.

I didn't drive my car to work today so I cant get you a picture of my actual tapping, but the wires are found on the 3rd connector from the rear of the car. For non ML, they were the first 4 wires from the front of the connector. I only tapped one set though. I believe they were brown+ green- pink+ and blue- wires, and I tapped the brown/green set.
I dug up a pic that I took (terrible quality), and I drew a circle around the ones to tap:
Hope this helps!!
