Rewiring fog lights
Hello!
So I rewired the fog lights in my 2003 IS300 so that I can turn them on anytime the car is running.
And at the same time, they turn off when the car shuts off (exactly the same as the headlights do).
1. Modding the fog light switch so it works independently of the headlights
Remove the plastic cover underneath the steering column. This picture is taken from below the steering wheel looking up. You'll see wires in thin plastic wireloom that go from the big black connector on the left side and move down to the thicker wire loom on the right side.
Carefully cut this (and remove it completely if you like - it's what I did). See the WHITE with RED STRIPE wire that comes out of the far left side of the connector? Cut it at the plug. Then ground it. I extended it a bit so I could use the oem bolt on the left side as a ground.
2. Modding the fog light relay so it gets power any time the car is running
This is located just to the left of the passenger side fusebox in the passenger footwell. You're going to want to remove the whole lower right kickpanel to get at everything. Once you do that, find the RED with YELLOW STRIPE wire on the lower white plug just above the grey plug left of the fuses. Cut that wire pretty high up so you have some wire to work with. When I cut it, I didn't cut high enough so that's why there's that unnecessary connector on there. Splice the RED/YELLOW wire into the thicker BLACK with RED STRIPE wire on the grey plug. This wire is located on the far right top of the grey plug. Then secure the connection (remember, this is a live wire EVERYTIME the car is running).
All done
