Need Help Picking An Used IS300
Hi guys,
I am looking to an used is300. Was able to find a couple that look to be in great condition.
The first one I found is a 2005 is300 (gray/beige), auto, 80k, and dealer asking for 8k (I would assume there will be some big maintenance on 90k).
The second I found is a 2003 is300 (black/black), stick shift, 145k (all maintenances are completely done, new brakes, tires, spark plug, timing belt and water pump, new clutch, arm controls, rear seal, etc.... owned by a Lexus mechanic), dealer asking for 8.6k
Any thoughts on this? Which one would you pick?
Thanks!

Check craigslist. Dealers are people who know how to cover up problems on cars. Dealers will say anything to sell a used car. I would rather but one from someone who doesn't know how to cover up problems. And besides the is300 is going anywhere from 2500 to 7k. Anything more than that and it better have around 50k mileage on it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am still looking around and will definitely check craigslist (So far, I haven't noticed any good ones on there yet). Let me know if you guys come across something nice ! Thanks again.

Before I buy a car I take it in for a synthetic oil change, I mean right before you pull the trigger on the deal, and I use the same oil weight that the car calls for when it was new. Then I run the engine to see it it does anything or smokes or makes knocking noises. The reason I do this is because a bad running will need really thick oil to be quiet and cover up smoking issues.

Hmm I never thought of that but that is good too know. Thanks! How about is300s with salvage or rebuilt title? I saw quite a few of those but I am quite hesitant considering those cars.

We'll find out why they were salvaged in the first place. You have to really look in to it and inspect the body really good because you don't want any leaks. Also make sure no flood cars. Save yourself the trouble. There have been many cars hit really baldy but not reported so nothing shows up on car fax.
