Default I pick up my 2003 IS 300 on Saturday!

And I can't wait! I bought it sight unseen (that's how I roll ) and pick it up Saturday at noon! From what I know about the car it is an excellent specimen and will do the brand proud. I'm very happy to be joining the Lexus club

I've always been an "American Muscle" type of guy, I'm a big Corvette guy with a few in my recent past, as well as owning the newest version of the Pontiac GTO. The GTO was supposed to be a daily driver for me while I played with my Vettes, but modding is like an addiction for me and it soon turned into a nice little 550rwhp daily driver. So I wouldn't be surprised if "something" happened to this car soon as well. And while natural aspiration works well for my human body....that state just doesn't seem to work well for my cars.

Anyway, glad to be here on this forum, and looking forward to all your future advice. And good natured ribbing.

With all that said, and even considering I now already "own" this car and there's no turning back, what would be any gotcha's I should look for on this thing before I drive it home? It is, taken on good word, in excellent condition in every way and has been maintained meticulously by a middle aged couple (nothing against middle aged....I'm one myself!). But it does have 104k miles (which should be nothing for these things).....and nothing is perfect and stuff does happen, especially on used cars.

  • Make sure the vent servos are working properly.
  • o2 sensors tend to go bad on occasion.
  • The cats should be fine, but you never know.
  • I would bring an obd2 reader if I were you.
  • check that all the windows work normally.
  • Check the trunk, gas, and hood release lever inside.
  • I wouldn't be surprised if the hood rod clip was broken.
  • Plan on doing the 90k maint if it hasn't been done.
  • Inspect the #2 lower control arms.
  • Make sure the steering doesn't feel sloppy.
  • inspect the ball joints (I've seen the lower ones up front break a couple times).
  • Make sure you get a least 1 master key,
  • Check the cabin filter behind the glove box. If it's filthy, I'd suspect that they haven't kept up with maintenance.

Those are all the common issues that I can remember reading about.

All is good!

Only issues I see so far are with the navigation system.

1) it It doesn't go down into the "store" position, It's stuck up. Any easy fixes for that?

2) It needs the little navigation "joystick" button/****. That is missing and the little pointy thing under it gets tough on the finger. Where to buy....just Lexus?

3) Navigation system is a bit hard to figure out. I want to turn off the sound for directions, but it seems to want to come back on when I turn the car off and on. Suggestions?

4) Definitely needs a map update. I see I can get that from Lexus for $169. Seems a bit much. Anybody else sell the update CD?

But hey.....other than that all seems good!

And oh yeah, only one key. How much is Lexus gonna kill me for to get a second?
