Only if you are able to retain drive by wire and do a piggy back style setup...
For instance, the VVTI GTE uses the same sensors as the GE VVTI motor does, so, technically, you could do what I did and that was to allow the factory ECU to control drive by wire and auto transmission, but give control of fuel and spark over to the AEM EMS... this by itself will set a check engine light which will disable traction control, but there is a mod to allow the ECU to believe the ignitor is working properly, which it currently doesn't believe...

Considering im driving my manual 1IS this winter, with more snow than I'm sure you've ever seen in Missouri. I'd say its possible, on 215/45/17 Kumho KW-22's and traction control off. I hit the button whenever i get in the car. It just comes down to the driver

Not saying driver has nothing to do with it, but it is impossible to control all 4 brakes at the same time. For testing last year, with Bridgestone performance all season tires, re960as, with about 4" of fresh snow on the ground, you could stop halfway up the hill to my house and no amount of skilled driving was getting the car up the hill without a running start. I grew up in this stuff too, so I've got some experience as well. Same everything, same hill, etc, turn traction and snow mode on, floor it and it slowly accelerated up the hill... Nothing helps more than winter tires, but traction and snow mode are definitely a force to be reckoned with... Same goes for my AWD vehicross, with winter mode on, you can floor it and it does nothing but accelerate, whereas with it off, it takes some finesse to get here going...

I have yet to have any trouble getting up hills or remaining in control while stopped on a hill, but I can see your point on the "finesse" part of the argument when it would come to worse conditions on a steep steep incline, however I'm sure there is a way to gather your composure enough to make it up the hill without traction control. However, theory is all we have to go on.

Mine has an Aristo VVTi swap and fully functioning TRAC. im running the factory ECU with the MAF as a BLOW THROUGH 12" from the throttle body with no CEL and just passed TN emissions for a second time. mine is a 03 manual so i dont know how an auto would be much different. if you need help feel free to PM me and i can send pics of my setup if you need help.
