Default In with the GTE

So my GE motor is tired, guessing rings. And Im just going to swap it with a GTE non vvti motor. My question is do I have to use the ECU that comes with it or can I use the current one. I don't know what the regulations are on a obd2 swaps for state inspections. Basically I just want to know what people did to get the swap running rite. As many info as possible please.

Current setup.

99 vvti w AEM FIC
70 trim
full 3in exhaust no mufflers
780cc injectors
Supra FFIM
44mm WG
Big FMIC
255HP with aeromotive AFPR with return line.
Halmen MBC
etc

damn dude.. with that setup I would get some rods, pistons, rings, bearings, cams for the is300 vvti and rebuild over the gte. Just my 2 cents.
If you are gun hoe on the 2jz non vvti you will need the non vvti ecu/ecm. To keep it closest to stock (funny to say that) I would suggest an OBD2 2jz-gte, harness, and ecu/ecm

I vote rebuild, but if your reallying going to swap you should use the gte ecu and reuse all the parts you have for your ge-t.

^ or if its possible i was just going to run the tt ECU in parallel with the stock and just let it control the motor.

I was going to do that but I really hate the 98+/IS ECU, I dont like the automatic advance/retard timing it does as well as how it bases fuel maps etc. Just want it reliable using the ECU made for the engine to make some smooth power. And its been a while since ive pulled a motor, I think it will be fun. So I'm deff going wit the swap just need more info on it if possible

OBD2 vehicles (96 and newer) require OBD2 diagnostics. I lived in Mass and they are emissions ***** (unless you know somebody).

Therefore, you will need to run an ECU with OBD2. The only GTE OBD2 ECU out is the USDM Supra TT. You could go with full Supra TT clip but that is gonna run some dough. There have been some successful Aristo GTEs and Supra TT ECU hybrids which give you a cheap GTE longblock with OBD2.

Phoenix Tuning is who you need to talk to.

Hmm I think I found a way around the obd2 testing but i'll have to replace my front windshield. So now I'm not worried about having a CEL from the 99 ECU i'll just pull the bulb since it wont be running anything engine wise. With some more research etc and electrical schematics I should be able to piggy back the Supra ecu

Well the engine arrived today I'm a little thrown off says its from a 98 was hoping it would be obd1, to be exact its from a 98 Toyota Chaser. Looks to be in overall good shape few broken sensor plugs etc. I'll start tearing into it tomorrow. Not sure but the valve cover seems to be painted that blue color threw me off thinking it was the vvti at first.

No way, the Chaser came with a 2jzgte?!! That has GOT to be from an Aristo man... But if it was, it would be VVTi in 98... Now I am really confused...

So My first question is did they give me all the wires harnesses needed. The pictures below the ecu comes with the 2 in one plug, so it leaves one missing..hope I don't need? And the plug shown in the back not sure what that is. If someone could enlighten me id appreciate.

You motor looks like an aristo motor. A 98 2jz should have vvti. What do you mean by two in one plug? If the plugs are able to completely fit in the gte ecu then i think the harness would be complete.

Like if you llook at the ecu pic the 2 plugs on the left are covered the harness plugs in but the one on the right has no plug, I think I read somewhere you dont need that one? But the Big grey plug I took a pic of im guessing is for the body, need a schematic for.
