Looking at first IS
Hey guys.. new here and looking for my first IS300. Currently am driving an 01 BMW 525i.
The one i have found has 158xxx. Dark gray. not the lexus wheels but some OEM 16s on new tires.. comes with some blizzaks and winter wheels for another 600. It is an 02 and has all records. He had it recently inspected at the lexus dealership with the printout of anything that needed to be done.. only thing on there is to replace filters.. so he is doing that this weekend. It is charcoal gray, with clean tan leather/suede interior.
Also, timing belt was already done.
He is asking 6500.. is that a fair price or should i make an offer a little lower?
Maintenance wise.. what are some example costs of things that need to be done sometimes.. how would it compare to my BMW price wise.
Thanks guys!

If he's asking $6500 I'd start with an offer of $5700-6000 with the winter wheels and go from there. $6500 with both sets of wheels would be decent if the car is in good condition.
I wouldn't trust his inspection, it would be bet to get one of your own. At the very least get a carfax or autocheck and look to see if any of the vin tags on the body panels are missing. You can get a free autocheck at www.getvin.com.
Is it a manual? The clutch will probably need replacing soon if that's not done. That and the timing belt are probably the two biggest items outside of regular maintenance. Prices on things like brakes and suspension parts are probably going to similar to your BMW. Hopefully the Lexus will break less often.

It is an Automatic. I might just keep looking.. IS300's are hard to come by in my area. There seem to be a lot up in chicago where a lot of my family lives though.
And actually my bmw has been extremely reliable. Only routine maintenance has had to be done.. i go lucky and my dad had it as his business car and everything was done when it was supposed to. But just in the mood for something sportier.
But i know what your saying.. when little things break on the Bmw damn... pricy!

yeah. came up clean. he has all records for car. He bout it as a CPO with 48 k. has all the records from the day he bought it. might just offer him 6500 for everything. Like the color a lot.. and from what i keep seeing these cars have some long life in them. My car is at 140k.. but I am beginning about little things going out that will cost me $$$$.
What you think? oh and i hit the wrong number it is an 01. Should i try looking for an 02 and newer?
can anyone give me some things i should get checked out on it? Also.. maintenance.. how would you say price wise it compares to what i have?
Thanks guys

IS300 should be alot cheaper to work on since so many more people are familiar with our motors
Some things to keep an eye out for are bad CD players, melting dash (not common in 01), 01 is big $$$ for master key if lost, check trunk corners for rust, if you have time to pull plug #1 do it and check it for oil (2jzs are known to need some head seals at that mileage), check for new mounts maybe and leaks

That sound like a fair offer?
